2007 Golden Gnar Nominations

2007 Golden Gnar Awards – Call for Nominations

Aww-right Cretins - the time has come! Rack that underused, pea-sized brain of yours and try to remember the glory days of 2007. Toss out a nomination for the most deserving of the Golden Gnar award. Who impressed you most, with what trick, and where (preferably with video or pictorial documentation for the presentation)?

Last year's winner, Gimpy, will present this years lucky with a coveted Golden Gnar Sculpture by none other than yours truly; whose work has inspired comments from real artists such as “Man, I don’t know what to say about your piece [that you submitted to the Decked Out Art Show].” A new sculpture will be created (picture is last years award) and I assure you will love it, even if you can’t display it.
-This is why he won. That's vert baby. Bonkin' in.

Submissions will be accepted up to April 11, 2008. Submit your nomination in the comments section of this post.

I had hoped to be in the running with a few rock-n-rolls in the deep-end, but alas, though I've made it before, none were completed last year... and it's just tacky to nominate yourself... So I nominate the one and only Gimpy(again)... for two reasons, both of which have video documentation...

HaHaa!! Thanks Nick BUT I gotta nominate Skidzilla NOT just because he STARTED skating in his MID-THIRTIES, BUT because he always seems to raise the stakes and get sessions going into a higher gear (at least for me anyway). The day I did the Golden Gnar bonk-in Dave inspired me to do that because a few mins before he had set his board up 50-50 in the BIG BOWL, thought about it for a second and then dropped right in, which he had never done before. The last park we hit on the OMP Roadtrip (I forget the name) in that slippery-ass bowl he proceeded to go over the loveseat and then the deathbox seemingly on a whim (man, that bowl scared the crap out of me). Marathon weekend we're skating the Powell pool and Dave hits a grind in it and I jokingly say "You should do that over the deathbox". Dave didn't get the joke cuz he just went and did it (I think it was first try??). The pool session was ON after that cuz he totally fired me up. There have been so many times where Dave will take a run and just bring the session to a higher level.

Dave gets my nomination because he always brings the gnar which lights the fire and creates more gnar.

    Kyle gets my vote.

Man he really step out on a limb this year!

First time since I've known him that he is sporting a girlfriend!

    What's he thinkin'????
    :-) :-)

It's a toss-up between Mofo and Skidzilla. Gimpy nailed it when he pointed out that Skidzilla really raises the bar when he steps onto the wood. His runs are long and have become increasingly tricky over the last year. He has overcome frontside gayness (proudly, I may add) and flaunts his gnar at every opportunity.

However, we cannot forget Mofo. When I'm skating with him (and not just sitting there watching) I am also driven to push and try or land things that I'm not comfortable with. His instruction at his ramp helped me nail lip tricks faster than doing them at home or at the park. His lip trick repertoire goes deeper than anybody I know or have even seen at the park. And even after skating with him for over (or only, depending how you look at it) two years I still find myself in awe. How often are you at the park with Mofo, watching him do his thing, and your jaw just drops? Answer for me - every time.

So take my ballot, tear it in equal halves, and cast for Skidzilla and Mofo.

Yeah one big nut for Mofo and one for Skidzilla. What about OMP though?? EVERY time he hits that fullpipe is Golden Gnar worthy fo sho. Everyone's got the gnar in their own way. Tough call . . .

OMP is standing down on the GNAR award list.

I think it's a rule that you can't be eligable if you only skate one day month!

    PUNK!
